Connecting Solar Farm to 15 Kv. Distribution

Connecting the power generated by a solar farm to the utility distribution grid requires more than a simple connection. Each cell producing 1.4 volts multiplied by, say 100,000 cells is no producing 140,000 dc volts. This power is transformed into 15,000 volts of alternating current and is fed into the grid utilizing disconnect and reconnect equipment on the solar farm side and on the utility grid side. This system acts as a safety valve ensuring that if the solar farm produces and over or under voltage it will disconnect and likewise if the grid becomes unstable it too will disconnect.
