Electric Conduit Construction Steers a Course Towards Excellence
Electric Conduit Construction (ECC) has been one of the Nation’s top ranked utility contractors for the telecommunications, and electric utilities for over 50 years. They offer a complete range of telecommunication, small cell, fiber optic, above and below ground construction services including congested urban environments, directional drilling, sub-station upgrades, fiber rings and fiber to the building solutions.
Electric Conduit Construction was awarded another challenging contract. This particular project required that ECC accurately drill to a prescribed radius for a total distance of 900’ under Interstate 294 near O’Hare Airport, northwest of Chicago, Illinois. Then we were required to pull back two 2” conduits for the placement of multi-strand fiber optic cable. This was a challenging project and ECC handled it with great determination, accuracy and, as always, with safety in mind. The entire project area is built up with office buildings, parking structures, and the abutment for the Balmoral Avenue overpass. The drill head was located utilizing wire-line locating technology which slowed the process considerably since every drill string segment required the hand splicing of all additional wire as the drilling progressed.
ECC has extensive experience with horizontal directional drilling. Our customers depend on us to complete the job to the exact drill profile with the utmost safety. ECC President Tim Pfleeger commented, “We have successfully completed many drills under highways, railroads and water courses. Extensive planning and preparation are the keys to avoiding utility strikes and cross-bores. A big thanks to our crews who perform this work day in and day out in all kinds of weather. True professionals.”
