Intelligent Transport System (ITS) Update

“As per the SNS Insider Report, “The Smart Highways Market was valued at $57.10 Billion in 2023 and is expected to reach $279.53 Billion by 2032."

Roadways are becoming intelligent. Sensors and cameras can now detect traffic flow, speed, accidents, road surface temperatures, ambient light levels, vehicle identity, lane departure and advise drivers with digital signage and lane closure indicators. This information can be used to alter traffic, maintain optimum speed, and make highways safer.

With these benefits more budget will be allocated to Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).

“As per the SNS Insider Report, “The Smart Highways Market was valued at $57.10 Billion in 2023 and is expected to reach $279.53 Billion by 2032, growing at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 19.33% over the forecast period 2024-2032.”

Vehicles and the roads they travel on are gaining digital intelligence in parallel. This will lead to safer highways and vehicle automation, and perhaps, shorter commuting times.

Building an ITS roadway is not fast or easy to do. Two miles of road, in addition to lights, sensors and cameras, will require 25-30 miles of conduit, power and fiber optic cables, hand holes and manholes. Earth must be moved to make room for these power and communication arteries to run below the new road surface. This is done by trenching and directional drilling. Depending on complexity it can take one year to build a half mile of intelligent roadway. That is one reason why the budget to build this infrastructure must increase dramatically.

Electric Conduit Construction (ECC) is on the leading edge of the effort to build ITS roadways. ECC’s inhouse capabilities include horizontal directional drills that can pull back multiple-conduits through holes reamed to 30 inches; Open cut trench work, hydro excavation, fiber and power cable placement, testing and termination, fiber splicing, highway lighting, camera and sensor placement. ECC also performs excavation and civil work.

These extensive capabilities make it much easier to meet the needs of our customers. Scheduling, mobilization, project management and execution are much easier when most of the work can be done by our highly skilled crews.

Electric Conduit Construction applies project management expertise to any project we are awarded. The next project may be yours and we stand ready to apply our skills to bringing your project from drawing to reality, safely and within budget.
